Musician | Fly Fisherman | Engineer
Born 8.11.1988, he comes from a town called Logatec, Slovenia. Simon is a fly tier and a fly fisherman, an enthusiastic rocket and aircraft modeller, a mechanical engineer, and a rock musician.
At about the age of four his father introduced him to fishing. After that day he started dreaming about the sea world that surrounded the island of Susak (Sansego) in Croatia where his family was on holidays at the time.
Later on, Simon fished mainly on small streams around his home town and already in teenage years he came to know the river Unica through his friends, where they spent long summer days swimming and fishing for carp and pike. In these years he got interested in fly tying, which he learned about from the book 'The lore of sportfishing' by Tre Tryckare – E. Cagner. It was only later that he started fly fishing.
In the year 2002 Simon found for himself a fishing mentor, who was a friend of his fathers, and so he started fishing on the river Idrijca. Those first days of fly fishing on the river were pretty hard, even though Simon had a lot of experience in trout fishing on small streams, he lacked experience of large waters. As days and months passed, he got the skill he needed to trick even the largest marble trout.
When it comes to fly tying, Simon Urbas earned his recognition on large competitions around Europe, Slovenia, and Croatia where he achieved several first places on national and international open competitions.
His latest performance was on fly fishing fair in Saint-Etienne in France, where the Fishing Association of Slovenia invited him to present some of his work and techniques.
